Promoting the art of Japanese taiko drumming

The Cincinnati-Dayton Taiko Group was formed in 1999 with the support of the Japanese-Americans Citizens League (JACL) of Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio. We are a non-profit arts organization dedicated to promoting Japanese-style taiko drumming through performance and education. Jim Shimko, our music director, holds a Bachelor's degree in Music and has taught music for over to 20 years. He has been involved in taiko drumming for over 10 years.

Our performances are based on a traditional foundation but emphasize the fun and community spirit of taiko.  Taiko drums are large drums played in an ensemble format which allows for thundering sounds and exciting rhythms.  Besides the large drums, we include a variety of world percussion including shekere, small cymbals, and a large gong. Our style is based on the Osuwa style which was founded by Daihachi Oguchi Sensei of Japan.

We are a community group and are open to new members.  We perform in the tri-state area and have participated in many festivals and venues through the years.  If you want more information about us, please contact us at cindaytaiko@yahoo.com.

サクラレディースコーラスは1998年に発足しました。 少人数の歌好き女性メンバーで懐かしい日本の歌を歌うことから始まりました。

The mission of the Sakura Ladies Chorus is to promote multiculturalism through Japanese music in Greater Cincinnati communities.  The Sakura Ladies Chorus was founded in 1998 and has been performing at local cultural events such as the Art Sampler, Asian Culture Fest at the museum center at the Union Terminal, local colleges and schools, churches, and several functions organized by the Japan America Society of Greater Cincinnati.  Our repertoire includes traditional to contemporary Japanese songs and some numbers from countries other than Japan in translation or original languages.

You have found the online home of Cincinnati’s Go enthusiasts. We are an official chapter of the AGA (American Go Association), and meet every week to play Go in various places around the city.

We’d be happy to have you join us at any of our meeting times and places listed below – no need to bring playing equipment.

The Cincinnati Asian Art Society provides a forum for sharing information and ideas about East Asian, Middle Eastern, and South and Southeast Asian art in all media. The goal is to provide for the exchange of ideas among people interested in both the collection and appreciation of Asian art and to further the education of its members.

Society members are interested in all aspects of Islamic and Oriental art. We explore and enjoy calligraphy, textiles and tapestries, sculpture, religious iconography (and its philosophy), prints, paintings, metal work, silver pieces, jewelry and ceramics. Programs also focus on performing arts.

The Society sponsors monthly programs, generally from September through June, featuring the art of China, India, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia and more.

Many of our programs are free and open to the public. Other programs are for members only.
