Haiku Workshop in Cincinnati

What is Haiku?

Haiku (俳句) is a traditional Japanese poetic form known for its brevity, clarity, and seasonal imagery. In its classical form, a haiku contains 17 syllables in a 5–7–5 pattern, often referencing nature and a moment of personal reflection.

Modern haiku, especially those written in English, preserve the spirit of the form while allowing more flexibility in structure. Haiku encourages careful observation, emotional awareness, and appreciation for small moments. It is used today in both literary and educational settings around the world.
