The Way of Tea

What Is Japanese Tea Ceremony?

Sadō (茶道), also known as chanoyu or “The Way of Tea,” is the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. It’s a meditative practice centered around the preparation and serving of matcha (powdered green tea) in a ritualized setting.

The ceremony reflects four core principles: 和 (wa, harmony), 敬 (kei, respect), 清 (sei, purity), and 寂 (jaku, tranquility). Every gesture, tool, and movement is intentional, inviting both host and guest into a moment of presence and reflection. Sadō blends aesthetics, hospitality, and mindfulness into one deeply rooted cultural experience.
